Tim McGraw Biography: Tim is the result of a brief affair between local waitress Betty Trimble and the late Tug McGraw who was a relief pitcher for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. He is married to singer Faith Hill. He was originally named Samuel Timothy Smith and did not know who his real father was until he was 11. He grew up in Start, Louisiana near Monroe. He was interested in a career in either music or athletics. He attended Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship, but dropped out in 1989 to head to Nashville to pursue a career in music. He was discovered busking for tips in front of a hot dog stand known as HoundDogs in Nashville.

He signed a contract with Curb records in 1990 and has his first minor hit "Welcome to the Club" from the album of the same name in 1992. His second album Not a Moment Too Soon, proved to be fortuitously named and became the best selling country album in 1994. There was considerable controversy over its first single "Indian Outlaw", written by John D. Loudermilk, which critics argued presented the Indians in a patronizing way. Some radio stations refused to play it, but surprisingly it did well on Indian stations and the song became Tim's first top 10 single. In 1995 All I Want debuted at number 1 on the country charts selling over 2 million copies and reaching number 5 on the Billboard 200. "I Like It, I Love It" reached the top spot on the country charts and was followed by the 1996 number 1 hit "She Never Lets It Go to Her Heart."

1996 marked the onset of his Spontaneous Combustion Tour with Faith Hill as his supporting act which ended in their getting married on October 6, 1996. The couple has 3 daughters. The wedding did not halt his success as Everywhere topped the country charts and hit number 2 on the album charts in 1997. The album sold 4 million copies and its first single a duet with new wife Faith Hill topped the country charts and broke the to 10 on th epop charts. The album produced 5 more country chart toppers "Everywhere", "Where the Green Grass Grows", "One of These Days", "For a Little While", and "Just to See You Smile." In 1999 A Place in the Sun sold 3 million copies and topped both the pop and country charts. The album produced 4 more chart topping singles "Please Remember Me" with Patty Loveless, "Something Like That", "My Best Friend", and "My Next Thirty Years." By 99 McGraw had supplanted Garth Brooks as the most popular male country singer.

His Greatest hits album released in 2000 topped the charts for 9 weeks. Later in the year he went on his Soul2Soul Tour with wife Faith Hill. Set This Circus Down released in 2001 spawned 4 more top country hits"Grown Men Don't Cry", "Angry All the Time", "The Cowboy in Me", and "Unbroken". A duet with Jo Dee Messina entitled "Bring on the Rain." In 2004 he did a duet with rapper Nelly "Over and Over," a ballad which became a crossover hit. In 2006 he embarked on the Soul2Soul II Tour once again with wife Faith Hill.
