The McGuire Sisters Biography: The sisters, Christine McGuire (born July 30, 1926), Dorothy McGuire (born February 13, 1928), and Phyllis McGuire (born February 14, 1931) were born in Middletown, Ohio, but grew up in Miamisburg, Ohio. There they sang in the Miamisburg First Church of God where their mother was an ordained minister. When they started singing at weddings and funerals Phyllis was only 4 years old. By 1949 they had expanded their music horizons to include military bases and veterans' hospitals.

They appeared on the Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts in 1952 which resulted in their being hired by Godfrey for his other shows. They achieved their greatest commercial success during the late 50s and although they were primarily an A Cappella group their sound was definitely not Doo Wop. It was a time when white artists would routinely make cover recordings of material originating in the black music market, and the McGuire Sisters werre no exception to the rule. As a result of their success the sisters achieved national fame performing for 5 Presidents of the United States: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush. They also appeared on numerous television shows and signed an advertising contract with the Coca-Cola company for what at that time was the highest fee paid in advertising history.

In 1968 the group retired with Phyllis pursuing a solo career and Dorothy and Chris spending more time with their families. Seventeen years later the sisters reunited at the bequest of their fans' urging.
