She lived with her father until he threw her out of the house while she was just a teenager. She spent time either living with friends or living out on the streets. She grew up on the same block as Christopher Wallace who became known as the notorious B.I.G., a hip hop impressario. It was while Kimberly was working at Bloomingdale's that she caught his eye or should I say ear. Her first rap effort was on Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s debut album Conspiracy. After that whe launced her own solo career in 1996 with her first album Hard Core. AS a female rapper Kim offered an unusual combination of hard-edged rhythyms and explicit female sexuality. The album received favorable reviews and debuted at number 11 on the pop charts. She followed the effort up with Notorious K.I.M. in 2000 and La Bella Mafia in 2003. She was convicted of perjury and conspiracy, in March of 2003, in connection with a shooting incident outside a Manhattan radio station. |
