Kenny Rogers Biography: Kenneth Donald Rogers started his career during the 1950s as part of a doo-wop group called the Scholars. The group had a hit record in 1958 called "That Crazy Feeling" which came after the members had already split up. He then hooked up with a jazz group called the The Bobby Doyle Trio. After the group disbanded in 1965 he joined the New Christy Minstrels. He then left the group along with Mike Settle, Terry Williams and Thelma Camacho to form The First Edition. Together the group turned out a series of hits including "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town", "Reuben James" and "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)."

He launched his solo career in 1976 after signing with United Artists. His first solo album was Love Lifted Me which included 2 minor hit singles "Love Lifted Me" and "While The Feelings Good." He followed it up with the Kenny Rogers album which included "Laura (What's He Got That I Ain't Got)," but it would be the single "Lucille" in 1977 that rocketed Kenny to international stardom by reaching the top of the charts in 12 countries while selling over 5 million copies and pushing his self titled album to the top of the Billboard album charts. He follwed this success with the album "The Gambler" which produced another international smash hit "Coward Of The County."

Kenny also experienced success outside of the music business. He started his movie career in 1982 with the movie Six Pack in which he played a race car driver. He also starred in made for television films like "The Gambler," "Christmas in America" and "Coward of the County." In 1991 he teamed up with Kentucky Fried Chicken CEO John Y. Brown, Jr. to form the restaurant chain Kenny Rogers Roasters. He has also had 3 books of his photographic work published.

All in all Kenny Rogers is one of the most successful singers of all time having charted more than 60 top 40 hits. His most recent album release was Water & Bridges which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard country album charts and included the hit single "I Can't Unlove You."
