He attended The International Academy of Art and Design and Technology in Chicago and then Chicago State University. He dropped out of college to work on his singing career. While in school he made his mark in the music world by producing hit singles for artists like Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, Brandy and Talib Kweli. This along with his squeaky clean image actually had an adverse affect on his music career. Lacking the street tough personna of many of the leading rap artists Kanye was viewed more as a producer than as an artist. An automobile accident on October 23, 2002, in which he broke his jaw, served as inspiration for his first single "Through the Wire." The song would later become the lead from his album The College Dropout released on Roc-a-Fella Records in February 2004. The single "Jesus Walks" also from the album would become a major hit for the artist. In August of 2005 he released his second album Late Registration to mixed reviews. The album featured the singles "Diamonds from Sierra Leone," and "Gold Digger" which featured Jamie Foxx. The album sold over 9 hundred thousand copies the first week and garnered 8 Grammy nominations. He has oft times publicly aired his pro Dixie Chicks, French Fried political views. Source Wikipedia |
