Born: July 24, 1970 City and Country of Origin: Bronx, New York Music Training: she studied dance from her early years; at 16 she won a dance scholarship to a Manhattan dance studio Awards: Top Recordings: "If You Had My Love," "Jenny From the Block" Jennifer Lopez Biography: Her father, a computer operator, and her mother, a school teacher, hailed from Ponce, Puerto Rico. Her primary training was in dance. She made her screen debut at 16 in the little known "My Little Girl." She earned a role on the television comedy sketch "In Living Color" as one of the dancing "Fly Girls." Next she had a recurring role on the television drama "Second Chances," but it wasn't until 1995 that she got her first big break co-starring in the motion picture "Money Train" along with Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. After a few small film roles she landed the title role in the movie Selena the story about the slain San Antonio singing sensation. This role gave her the opportunity to both sing and dance on stage. After starring opposite George Clooney in 1998's critically acclaimed "Out of Sight," she released her first album. |
