She started her singing career at an early age. After briefly attending college she moved to Nashville where she worked as a secretary while selling merchandise for famous country stars. After her voice caught the attention of Warner Brothers Records she was signed to a contract. She was married to music executive Dan Hill from 1988-94. She met Tim McGraw while opening for him on tour and married him in 1996. Her first album Take Me As I Am released in 1993 experienced strong sales and included "Wild One" and Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" which topped the country charts in 1994. It Matters to me her second album finally appeared in 1995 after Faith had taken a medical hiatus to have surgery done on her vocal cords. The title track of the album became her fourth single to top the country charts. She then embarked on the Spontaneous Combustion tour with singer Tim McGraw which resulted in a marriage proposal and a wedding October 6, 1996. The couple have 3 daughters together. Her 1998 album Faith brought her closer to the pop mainstream with the number 1 country single "This Kiss" which rose all the way to number 7 on the pop charts. Her success on the pop charts helped land her an endorsement deal for CoverGirl makeup. She then released her most successful album to date Breathe whose title track of the same name became the most popular pop airplay song of 2000 and her signature song. "The Way You Love Me" also from the album peaked at number 7 on the charts and became one of the longest lasting singles ever on the Billboard charts at 57 weeks. That same year she launched the highly successful Soul2Soul Tour with her husband Tim. For the holidays she contributed the song "Where Are You Christmas?" to the soundtrack of the film How the Grinch Stole Christmas and in 2001 "There You'll Be" for the soundtrack of the movie Pearl Harbor. That year she also released her first collection "There You'll Be" which actualy reached the top 30 on the Italian charts. Her next album Cry released in 2002 debuted at number 1 on both the pop and country charts, but failed to get the radio play of many of her earlier efforts. In 2004 she made her movie debut with Nicole Kidman and Matthew Broderick in the remake of the Stepford Wives. In 2005 she returned to her country roots with Fireflies which hit the top of the country charts. "Mississippi Girl" became her eighth single to reach the top of the charts. In 2006 the couple reprised their 2000 tour with the Soul2Soul II Tour. Source Wikipedia |
