Although her parents are of French origins, she doesn't speak French. Avril is French for "April", while la vigne means "the vine" or "the vineyard." Avril Lavigne is featured in Maxim magazine's Girls of Maxim gallery. In 2006, she was included in Canadian Business Magazine's ranking of the most powerful Canadians in Hollywood, in seventh position. She has sold over 26 million albums worldwide. Her parents moved to Napanee, Ontario when she was just 3. She was discovered by her first manager while working in a bookstore in Kingston, Ontario. Her first recording efforts were doing vocals on recordings by Steve Medd a local folksinger. She was signed to a recording contract by Arista records and moved to New York City where she recorded her first album. Difficulty finding a co-writer led to a move to the West Coast where she found more compatible writers. Her first album Let Go went to number 2 on the U. S. charts and number 1 in Australia, Canada and the U. K. The album included 4 singles which made the charts "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi," "I'm With You" and "Losing Grip." Her second album Under My Skin appeared in May 2004. Lavigne's third album The Best Damn Thing was released in April 2007. The album is produced by Dr. Luke, her husband Deryck Whibley , Rob Cavallo, Butch Walker and herself. Lavigne has been doing a small tour to promote The Best Damn Thing, with tickets available only to members of her fan club. |
