Abba Biography: The hottest group of the seventies was formed when Bjorn and Benny teamed up with their respective girlfriends Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Benny and Bjorn had been collaborating composing songs and handling session and production work for Polar Music/Union Songs since 1966. The name Abba is an acronym for their first names. The group submitted and won the Erovision competition with the single "Waterloo," but then hit a dry spell for a time as their subsequent releases failed to chart. They finally broke the ice with the international hit "S.O.S." followed up by the likes of "Mamma Mia," "Fernando," and "Dancing Queen." The group disbanded after the collapse of their marriages in the early 80s.
